Research Projects
Research on the Center for Local and Regional Development
encompasses a wide range of research projects within social
science research. In some cases the research projects are headed
by researchers at the Center for Local and Regional Development.
In other cases the research projects are conducted in
cooperation with other researcher / institutions either in the
Faroes or abroad.
Below you will find references about
some of the research projects that have been conducted at the
Center for Local and Regional Development during the last years.
Municipalities and small communities
Municipalities and small communities has been one of the
main research themes at the Center for Local and Regional
Development during the last years. Several projects have been
focused at this theme, both Faroese and international projects.
Several of the projects have been published, either as part of
the Working Paper series at the Center for Local and Regional
Development or as part of other publications, either Faroese or
international. See also

Other projects are still running and
new projects within this area will be launched in the near
future.
Youth, education and the fishing industry
This projects focuses on the wishes the Faroese youth has to the
future, regarding choice of education and occupation. On of the
main focuses of this project regards the youths attitude towards
the fishing industry and to what extent they believe that jobs
in the fishing industry can fulfil their wishes to the future.
The project also touches upon the question of the younger
generations migrating from the periphery to the centre, more
specifically regarding the question of moving back to their
hometown after they have finished their.
The report from this project is published as a Working Paper
(see publications) and is only available in Faroese.
The restructuring of the Faroese
economy
In February 2002 the book "The Restructuring of the Faroese
Economy" was published.
The book includes four case studies, of selected areas in the
Faroes, which illustrate have these places have coped with the
economic crises of the early 1990s. These places are Klaksvík, Fuglafjørður, Tvøroyri og Vágur.
Further more the book also includes a individual chapter on the
development of the Faroese aquaculture.
The book is titled: "The Restructuring of the Faroese Economy:
The Significance of the Inner Periphery" and is published
by Samfundslitteratur in Denmark. The book is written in English.
